I'm not sure if this is already on here but I didn't see it! I also don't know if this is Mom's exact recipe but it tastes just like it. So yummy...
Yields: About 2 1/2 cups of syrup
1/2 cup butter
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp extract (vanilla, maple, coconut, caramel or a combo - you get the idea)
Bring butter, buttermilk and sugar to a low boil in a large pot. Add in baking soda. This will bubble very high so make sure your pot is large enough. Stir constantly to avoid any scorching. Cook for 5-7 minutes. Will become more caramel like the longer you cook. Remove from heat and add in flavoring extract. Leftovers can be stored in fridge and reheated - there won't be any leftover though. Enjoy!
