Sugar Cookies

Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

I wish I had a picture of these cookies. I made pretty snowflakes with Simple Glaze, Royal Icing, and pretty sugar sprinkles.
These cookies are really good (for cookies without chocolate) and they're soft! (if not overcooked)

Sift together:
2 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. cream of tartar

In a separate bowl:
1/2 c. softened butter or margarine
1 egg
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. sour cream

Cream butter and add sugar. Beat until fluffy. Add egg and sour cream. Add sifted dry ingredients. Beat until smooth. Cover and chill overnight. Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes. (I took them out at about 5 1/2 minutes just before they got brown so that they stay nice and soft) Makes 7-8 dozen cookies. (I didn't get this many out of a batch)

**Jeanene gave me this recipe it came from Linda's sister**
**The glaze and royal icing came out of a magazine, I believe it was Taste of Home**

Simple Glaze:
Stir together 2 c. powdered sugar and 4-6 T. hot water until smooth

Royal Icing:
2 T. Meringue Powder
3 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. cold water

Beat on high speed until glossy stiff peaks form.
Place a damp cloth directly on surface of icing (to prevent crust from forming) while icing cookies.

The glaze and royal icing make for some beautiful cookies!
Enjoy!
